Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) harnesses the power of music to connect our city’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy and inspire social inquiry. Children, ages 7–18, come together across differences of race, religion, and socioeconomic status in a celebration of shared humanity and love of music. BCC bridges Greater Boston’s many diverse groups and fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion. Through intensive choral training and once- in-a-lifetime performing experiences locally, nationally, and around the world, BCC enhances the education and social development of youth as future leaders and global citizens in the 21st century. The Young Men’s Ensemble (YME) Conductor will be an integral part of the artistic team, conducting BCC’s most advanced choir for tenor and bass voices. The YME conductor, in collaboration with BCC’s artistic staff, will be expected to vision, plan, and execute high level rehearsals and performances on a weekly basis.



The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Plan and execute instruction for singers in BCC’s Young Men’s Ensemble from September 2021 to May 2022 (including selecting music, conducting rehearsals, and performances)
  • Collaboratively choose appropriate musical literature for successful instruction
  • Prepare singers for several virtual and in person performances throughout the season as determined by the Executive Producer
  • Prepare for and attend weekly planning meetings with the Associate Director of Choirs
  • Attend monthly meetings with the conducting team to plan for performances, events, recruitment, and assessments
  • Recruit and audition students of all backgrounds for the Young Men’s Ensemble and the organization at large
  • Confer with parents/caregivers and the Associate Director of Choirs regarding student progress



  • Bachelor’s degree in music
  • Demonstrated excellence as a choral conductor
  • Minimum 5 years experience in music education or choral conducting
  • Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy, and a broad range of choral repertoire
  • Demonstrated leadership and connection with youth
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Proven success with recruiting to a choral music or youth development program
  • The right candidate will be a capable, independent worker with strong entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
